Wakefield Council Launches Safe Point to Support Vulnerable People at Night – Delivered with CDS Print Services Expertise

Wakefield city centre has taken a major step toward improving nighttime safety with the launch of the Safe Point initiative, a mobile unit designed to provide immediate assistance to anyone feeling vulnerable during a night out. This innovative project is supported by Wakefield Council’s Community Safety Partnership and proudly delivered with print and installation services by CDS Print Services.

What is the Safe Point?

The Safe Point is a converted ambulance stationed on Westgate every Friday, Saturday, and Bank Holiday from 10:30 pm to 5:30 am. It offers a safe, non-judgemental space for individuals who are intoxicated, unwell, separated from friends, or otherwise vulnerable.

Key benefits of the Safe Point include:

• ✅ Immediate assistance for anyone requiring a safe place while visiting Wakefield’s nightlife.
• ✅ A non-judgemental environment for vulnerable individuals who need support.
• ✅ Acts as a first response unit, reducing unnecessary hospital admissions by enabling trained staff to treat people on-site.
• ✅ Supports the Community Safety Partnership’s vision for safer, confident, and inclusive communities.
• ✅ Provides medical care and welfare support, plus amenities such as phone charging, water, and essential medical equipment.

Why It Matters

The Safe Point is designed to reduce the burden on emergency services while improving safety in the nighttime economy. By offering practical help and medical care, it prevents escalation of risk and harm, while saving NHS resources by reducing ambulance call-outs.

In 2024 alone, previous safe spaces in Wakefield and Pontefract helped 566 people, including victims of drink spiking, domestic altercations, and those needing first aid or assistance getting home.
